Jogan is a 1950 Bollywood romantic drama film directed by Kidar Nath Sharma and starring Dilip Kumar and Nargis. It features the song, "Ghungat ke pat khol" sung by Geeta Dutt. Rajendra Kumar in his film debut plays a small role.
A box-office success, the film became the fourth highest earning film of 1950, earning an approximate gross of Rs. 1,12,00,000 and a nett gross of Rs.62,00,000
A Ranjit Movietone movie which was a big risk taken by Chandulal Shah, the producer, since the theme of the movie as envisaged by him was regarded as a recipe for disaster by leading directors like Nitin Bose and Mahesh Kaul,
who refused to have anything to do with the project. Then Kidar Sharma took up the challenge and finished up the project in less than one month.

This risky proposition, whose failure would have ruined Chandulal Shah financially had the movie failed, became a box office success.

Storyline :-
Orphaned at a young age, Vijay[diiip kumar] lives with his Puffi in a village and is an atheist. He is drawn towards Meeradevi[Nargis], a Bhajan singing devotee, but she not only rejects him but also asks him not to come near her. When she falls ill, he makes inquiries about her, both start to converse and are drawn toward each other. She confides in him about her wealthy childhood, that was the time she was called by her real name, Surabhi[Nargis], and how her brother had coerced her into marrying a much older man - compelling her to forsake all materialistic bonds and becoming a Sanyasin/Jogan. The question remains: Will she accept now him as her life partner? Written by rAjOo

Trivia
The film's title refers to religious female mendicants (called "perseverants" in the sub-titles). The most famous example, is the 16th century poet/saint Meerabai. It is a song by Meerabai ("Ghunghat ke pat khol") sung by Geeta Dutt that first attracts Dilip Kumar's character to the temple.
The word jogan is the female equivalent in Hindi of jogi from which we get the English word yogi. These are people (ascetics, dervishes, mendicants) who have renounced the world in search of spiritual enlightenment. This usually includes vows of celibacy and sexual abstinence and this point forms the crux of this movie: Dilip Kumar's character becomes attracted to a woman whose vocation means she cannot reciprocate. The equivalent would be someone falling in love with a nun.
