Did You Know?

This piano arrangement of the well-known 1938 piece by the US composer Morton Gould (1913-96) was published in 'The Geraldo Album of Tip Top Tunes'. This was a British compilation of pieces associated with the orchestras of the bandleader Geraldo, and indicates the take-up of this piece as a light orchestral 'pop'. The Symphonette from which it comes was composed specifically for radio performance. The odd spelling of 'pavane' was apparently intended to steer non-musical listeners towards a correct pronunciation of the title! I have made one or two slight amendments to the printed text to conform it with the orchestral version.
